This is one of the most common areas that I get involved in. Many, many, many different things can cause your pet to have these problems. Intestinal parasites a very frequent cause. We see these primarily in puppies and kittens, but we still do continue to see these in adult pets, especially if the pet is not on heartworm preventative. Dogs in particular will eat things that they shouldn’t, and that can cause for some very serious problems. Most of these will be treated as a medical problem. However, if your pet swallows a foreign object, we may have to do surgery to remove it. We also see inflammatory problems causing chronic vomiting, diarrhea, or weight loss, and we have to keep cancer in mind with regards to our older patients. If your pet is having these problems, please try to bring along a fecal sample when you come to our office.
